Vail, Colorado

Vail is relatively new compared to many Colorado towns. Founded in 1962, it is conveniently located off Interstate 70, just 90 miles west of Denver. Vail's newness does not mean it lacks charm. In Vail you will find a wide variety of recreational activities for all ages at all times of the year.

Beyond the Vail slopes is a town of livelihood that offers extensive fun throughout the year. The level of amusement is beyond words, and the villages of Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch, Avon and Edwards do a remarkable job at providing nonstop happenings for all guests. Vail is home to 4,500 permanent residents, plus another 5,000 part-time residents of vacation properties. Together, we share and value a lifestyle that combines one of the best alpine resorts in the world with a friendly, small-town feel. Visitors and residents alike enjoy the 1,100 acres of open space accounting for 30 percent of Vail’s town-owned land; 350,000 surrounding acres of national forest, crowned by 5,289 skiable acres on one of the largest and best ski mountains in the world; 15 miles of recreation paths; countless special events, the highest botanical gardens in the world and an outdoor amphitheater named for Vail’s most famous resident, President Gerald R. Ford.

Vail's taste for art is impeccable. A countless number of galleries offer artwork that range from contemporary and impressionist paintings to glass art and natural mineral displays. Authentic western designs, jewelry collections, sculptures, bronzes and more make up a variety of art galleries in the towns. Visitors can spend days shopping at the area's fine ski, clothing and gift shops that offer customers a wide range of splendors.

When it comes to nightlife in and around Vail, there are a plethora of options. If a night of fine arts is on the agenda, the Vilar Center is an ideal spot for a variety of performances. Broadway musicals, rock concerts, jazz ensembles, orchestras, stand-up comedies and more are among the many types of entertainment acts scheduled throughout the year with moderate to luxurious prices. If hitting the nightlife bar and club scene is on the menu, areas for adult fun are scattered around Beaver Creek, Avon and Edwards. Cigar bars, martini clubs, old-fashioned brews and more prove that the towns appeal to all sorts of culture.

Pedestrian walkways provide a relaxed environment to peruse the many unique shops and galleries. Dining choices run the full gamut from elegant to casual. Choose from gourmet cuisine in a classic setting to appetizers in a colorful outdoor beer garden.

Cultural events in the area highlight the summer season. The Vail International Dance Festival, Beaver Creek Culinary Festival and the Vail Arts Festival are just a sampling of what the area has to offer.
